Heiner Sauer (1957) comes from an old winemaking family. In 1974, he was left on his own when his father, who sold wine in bulk, passed away. The young Heiner went to work at other wineries and did internships so that he could eventually start working on his own. For ideological reasons, he opted for organic viticulture and implemented it from 1987 on the 17-hectare winery, which is only 25 km from the French border. Here, they refer to it as ecological viticulture. The slopes are protected from wind and rain by the surrounding Haardt Mountains.
Description: Fresh and juicy, fine acidity. Riesling 'style'.
Pairs well with: Aperitif, fresh salads.
Fun fact: The idyllic village of Gleisweiler is the warmest spot in all of Germany; palms, banana plants, and cypresses grow there. The soil is varied, with plots of heavy lime/clay.
