Vincent Gaudry has been making wine for over thirty years in the hamlet of Chambre, near Sury-en-Vaux in Sancerre. He took over the family estate in 1993 and completely changed course: Gaudry became one of Sancerre's first certified Demeter producers, with "Trust in Nature" as his guiding principle. Gaudry'Olle is the very first vintage (2022) of his latest project, "La Grande Pièce" in Crézancy-en-Sancerre, just across the border of the Sancerre appellation, on a 300-meter high plateau with calcareous clay soil and caillottes underneath. With climate change in mind, Vincent planted sauvignon blanc here in 2019, sourced from a massal selection of his own 90-plus year old vines from his La Rabotine vineyard. Due to the higher elevation and cooler conditions, the grapes here ripen on average eight days later than in the warmer parts of Sancerre.
Description: Fresh and mineral, juicy and supple with a fleshy texture, citrus, green apple and warm stony notes, subtle salty finish.
Pairs well with: Shellfish, sushi and sashimi, fresh or aged goat cheese.
Fun fact: Vincent did not choose this vineyard by chance - he saw Crézancy-en-Sancerre as one of the most interesting places for the future of the region, precisely because of the high natural acidity and excellent ventilation on this windy plateau.
