Tenuta Migliavacca is a small family estate in Murisengo in Monferrato Casalese, dedicated to saving and promoting Grignolino—one of Piedmont's most underrated and almost forgotten indigenous red grape varieties. On limestone-clay soils in the hills around Casale Monferrato, Migliavacca produces a classic, elegant Grignolino with the characteristic high acidity and light tannins of this special varietal. Without oak aging, for maximum freshness and varietal character.
Description: Light ruby with orange reflections, typical of Grignolino. Delicate aromas of cherry, pomegranate, clove, and a slight peppery bitterness. Fresh, light, and energetic on the palate, with soft tannins and a lively, bitter finish.
Pairs well with: Lightly chilled with pasta with tomato sauce, vitello tonnato, antipasti, fresh goat cheeses, or charcuterie.
Fun fact: Grignolino was the absolute favorite wine of the House of Savoy—the Italian royal family that ruled from Turin. In the late 19th century, it was even on the wine list of the Quirinale (the royal palace). Today, it is almost forgotten—which is precisely what makes it such a special discovery.
