Sidónio de Sousa is a leading family estate in Sangalhos, in the heart of Bairrada – the Portuguese region that has been known for centuries for its sparkling wines made from the Baga grape. The estate has 15 hectares of vineyards on calcareous-clay soils in Figueira da Costa, with some of the region's oldest Baga vines. The Espumante Rosé Brut Nature is made from 100% Baga, produced as free-run must, using the traditional method (second fermentation in the bottle) and aged on the lees for several years. Zero dosage after disgorgement.
Description: Salmon pink with fine, persistent bubbles. Fresh and aromatic, with aromas of strawberry, raspberry, citrus blossom and a light touch of bread and toast from the autolysis. Dry, lively, and elegant on the palate with a long, fresh finish.
Pairs well with: Oysters, raw fish, light tapas, a drinks reception, or as an aperitif for a festive occasion.
Fun fact: Baga – the main grape for Bairrada's sparkling wines – naturally has a high acidity that makes it perfect for sparkling winemaking. The Portuguese have understood this for centuries, but the rest of the world is now slowly discovering it too.
