The founder of modern-day Riecine is John Dunkley, an English gentleman who, based on the Sangiovese grape, is one of the most admired modern producers. Together with his wife Palmina Abbagnano, John bought the original 1.5 hectares of land from the neighbouring monastery Badia a Coltibuono in 1971. Together, they began renovating the old stone villa, then reviving the old plants and planting new vines. The first vintage of Chianti Classico, 1973, was launched in 1975.

Description: Deeper and more intense than the classico, black fruits like berries and blackberries, and floral notes.

Pairs well with: Poultry, pasta with meat, cheese.

Fun fact: Riecine was owned by the nearby monastery from 1112 until the mid-20th century. The estate is located near the excavations of an ancient Etruscan settlement. It is possible that wine was already being produced on the hills around Riecine before the 12th century.
