Olivier Rivière is a Frenchman from Cognac who studied oenology in Bordeaux, did internships at Domaine Leroy in Burgundy and Domaine de Chassorney, before settling in Logroño to make Rioja in his own way. Les Jardins d'Édina is his Bordeaux project: a Merlot-Cabernet Franc blend from organically certified vineyards in Fronsac, the small appellation in the shadow of Pomerol. Hand-picked, fermented in concrete tanks, aged 12 months in foudres.
Description: Deep garnet red with aromas of cherries, plums, violets, herbs and a light oak touch. Juicy and soft on the palate, with fine tannins and a fresh, elegant finish.
Pairs well with: Lamb, grilled red meat, mushroom pasta or aged soft cheeses.
Fun fact: In the 18th century, Fronsac was more expensive than Saint-Emilion and Pomerol — a fact that the country's most famous drinker, Richelieu, liked to emphasize. Today it is one of the best-kept secrets of the Bordelais.
