Manoir de la Tête Rouge is a 14-hectare organic estate in Varrains, in the heart of Saumur-Champigny. Owner Sébastien Bobinet is one of the most innovative Loire winemakers: he experiments with amphora, long macerations, and expects biodynamically grown grapes averaging 40 years old. The Bagatelle is his most accessible red cuvée: Cabernet Franc from calcareous tuffeau soils, briefly aged in concrete and stainless steel for a direct, juicy, and energetic character.
Description: Vibrant garnet red with aromas of fresh raspberry, red cherry, bell pepper, and a fresh spiciness. Light and juicy on the palate, with soft tannins, lively acidity, and a cheerful, long finish.
Pairs well with: Slightly chilled with rillettes, chicken, light meat dishes, or a rustic picnic.
Fun fact: Sébastien Bobinet once ordered an entire ship full of amphorae from Georgian potters — and has since become one of the first Loire winemakers to systematically work with this 8,000-year-old fermentation vessel.
