In many ways, Bairrada is Portugal's most historic wine region. Luis Pato is an iconic winemaker here, having made wine since the 1980s. His father, João, had made the first DOC Bairrada wines 10 years prior. This Vinhas Velhas Branco (translated: old vines) is made from 50% Bical, 25% Cerceal, and 25% Sercialinho. The Bical grapes come from clay-limestone-rich soil, and the Cerceal and Sercialinho grapes come from sandy soils.

Description: Aromas of citrus, apple and pear, delicate floral bouquet. Slightly bitter, fresh acidity and lightly spicy.

Pairs well with: Asian cuisine, seafood pasta.

Fun fact: After all the grapes are harvested, alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Luis then ages the wine for another 4 months in stainless steel tanks.
