Jean-Charles Fournet invests everything he earns as a radiologist at the hospital into his chateau just outside Condrieu. As a wine lover, he regularly hosts the greatest winemakers such as Vernay, Chave, and Gangloff, who advised him to make the most of his terroir. With the same enthusiastic surgical precision, some might call it neurotic, he now cultivates 7 hectares of Syrah, Viognier, and Roussanne. Aided by the renowned Claude and Lydia Bourguignon, he produces brilliant, clear, pure, elegant, complex wines. Passionately organic. Extremely high concentration with minimal yields.
Description: Viognier of the digestible kind, pure and elegant, lovely and floral, fresh-softly salty, a little fat on the bones, airy, clean. From cool altitude, and you can taste it, beautiful finesse.
Pairs well with: Chicken in cream sauce, zucchini with green asparagus from Tomas (chef at Zoldering), ajo blanco
Fun fact: The quartz-containing mica schist terroir is found in the famous Côte Brune of Côte-Rôtie, but there, Syrah is planted instead of Viognier, making this a completely different expression of the same type of terroir.
