In one of the last coves on the French side of the Spanish border, deep in the Côte Catalanes, lies the picturesque harbour town of Collioure. The bay offers a beautiful view of the surrounding hills, which lie like an amphitheatre around the small town. Grenache is king here and grows in all its varieties (Blanc, Gris and Noir) on the steep slate slopes, where they are constantly cooled by the sea wind. This constant wind also keeps the grapes free from many diseases, eliminating the need for herbicides or pesticides.
Description: Fruity and roasted notes, ripe port style, slightly sweet, notes of spices, warm.
Pairs well with: Cheese, nutty desserts.
Fun fact: At this special place, Vincent Cantié started La Tour Vieille in 1982. A few years later, Christine Campadieu joined him, bringing her own family vineyards from Banyuls, famous for its fortified wines.
