Jules Desjourneys is the unique creation of Fabien Duperray, a winemaker who began his career as a top caviste for the great houses of Burgundy and then stepped into the vineyards himself. His white wines come from 10 hectares of Chardonnay in the Mâconnais, in collaboration with winemaker Christophe Thibert. Pouilly-Vinzelles is a small appellation located next to Pouilly-Fuissé, on calcareous hillside soils. Les Longeays is a specific plot within Pouilly-Vinzelles, aged in high-quality François Frères barrels on the fine lees for extended élevage.
Description: Fresh and pronounced, with aromas of citrus blossom, green apple, white stone fruit, and an elegant limestone-mineral edge. Lively and precise on the palate, with dry, tingling acidity and a long, refined finish.
Pairs well with: Oysters, scallops, light river fish dishes, or vegetarian dishes with young vegetables.
Fun fact: Pouilly-Vinzelles may be less well-known than its neighboring appellation Pouilly-Fuissé, but the soils are comparable and the prices are lower—giving wine lovers the opportunity for a Grand Cru experience for less money.
