Jules Desjourneys is the exceptionally dual creation of Fabien Duperray: a top Burgundy wine merchant by day, a visionary winemaker in Beaujolais and the Mâconnais. His white wines are made in collaboration with winemaker Christophe Thibert on 10 hectares of Chardonnay, aged in barrique sur lies without bâtonnage. The Vignes Blanches is a premier cru from Pouilly-Fuissé — one of the most respected white Burgundy crus — with grapes grown on calcareous loam soils, harvested with the precision of a Burgundian grand domaine: multiple passes through the vineyard, harvest date determined to within half a day.
Description: Golden yellow and expressive, with aromas of ripe lemon, white peach, toasted bread, and a delicate minerality from the limestone. Full, broad, and elegant on the palate with a long, persistent finish of fine fruit and chalk.
Delicious with: Rich fish dishes such as scallops or stuffed lobster, white truffle, creamy poularde, or refined goat cheese desserts.
Fun fact: Fabien Duperray is the long-term agent for iconic Burgundy domaines such as Coche-Dury and Arnaud Ente — the maestros who profoundly influenced his winemaking vision.
