Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is certainly one of the best producers of Barolo. The family business dates back to 1881 & moved to Monforte d'Alba. Maurizio (Morissio) bought the Castiglione Falletto Monprivato vineyard in 1904 and planted it with the Nebbiolo Michèt clone, before moving the winery to Monchiero in 1919. Son Giuseppe took over the company in 1923, leaving the other family business of building materials to focus on wine.
Description: Earthy, leather, black fruit, medium, spicy, robust but friendly.
Pairs well with: Steak with grilled vegetables, lamb.
Fun fact: Mauro, Giuseppe's son, has been refining the estate since 1967, particularly by lowering yields, introducing a sorting table to ensure perfect bunches, and marketing Monprivato as a single vineyard wine from 1970 onwards.
