In the northeast of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, just outside the village of Courthézon, lies the small family estate Font de Courtedune. Here, siblings Frédéric and Caroline Charrier call the shots. In 1997, their father René left the local cooperative and started the estate, which is now run by his children. Things are done differently here, and yet also not at all. While Châteauneuf is known for its beautiful photos of vineyards with large rolling stones, the vineyards here are mainly covered with sand. Precisely what cult neighbour Château Rayas is famous for.
Description: Red fruit like raspberry and cherries, full, round mouthfeel with floral notes.
Pairs well with: Roast lamb, game, stew, truffle dishes.
Fun fact: Sustainable practices are also used in the vineyard, following terra vitis, but not organically. In the warm, dry southern Rhône, pesticides are hardly, if ever, needed.
