Envínate - 'make wine yourself' - is the project of four friends who met during their oenology studies at the Miguel Hernández University in Alicante: Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos and José Martínez. Their philosophy is simple: let each parcel express itself through traditional winemaking and viticultural methods. The Benje wines come from vineyards in Santiago del Teide, high on the northwestern volcanic slopes of Tenerife, at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters. The vines are free-standing, ungrafted, organically grown and largely over a century old. Manual harvesting, fermentation per parcel with wild yeasts, 8 months of aging in neutral old barriques. Unfiltered and bottled with only a minimal addition of sulphites.

Description: Light ruby red with floral aromas of red cherry, strawberries, wild herbs, black pepper and a mineral volcanic undertone. Light-bodied, fresh and vibrant with fine tannins and a juicy, saline finish.

Pairs well with: Slightly chilled, excellent with grilled fish, mushrooms, jamón ibérico or tapas.

Fun fact: The Listán Prieto grape — the main grape of Benje Tinto — is also known in Spain as 'País' or 'Mission' and was spread by the Spanish conquistadors to Chile, Argentina and California, where the same grape forms the basis of many of the oldest vines in the world.
