Dominus Estate, by the famous winemaker and CEO Christian Moueix (Pétrus, Trotanoy, etc.), is part of the historic Napanook monument and is believed to be one of the first vineyards planted in Napa Valley, California (in 1836). It was acquired in 1946 by the legendary winemaker and visionary John Daniels and was passed down to his daughters in 1970. In 1982, they partnered with Christian Moueix to create Dominus Estate. The wines, especially those from the past 25 years, taste like a serious Grand Cru from Bordeaux but also possess the ripe fruit characteristics of Napa Valley. To be more specific: a Napa terroir, but with a Bordeaux spirit.
Description: Perfume of violets, anise, truffles and lavender, ripe plums and hints of cedar chest, medium to full-bodied and firmly structured with very ripe tannins, black and blue fruits, and earthy notes.
Pairs well with: Ribeye, Côte de Boeuf, both excellent from the BBQ.
Fun fact: The first release was in 1983, but due to Mr. Moueix's influence, the wine immediately garnered international attention.
