Dominus Estate, owned by the famous winemaker and CEO Christian Moueix (Pétrus, Trotanoy, etc.), is part of the historic Napanook monument and is believed to be one of the first vineyards planted in Napa Valley, California (in 1836). It was acquired in 1946 by the legendary winemaker and visionary John Daniels and passed on to his daughters in 1970. In 1982, they partnered with Christian Moueix to create Dominus Estate. The wines, especially those from the past 25 years, taste like a serious Bordeaux Grand Cru, but also possess the ripe fruit characteristics from Napa Valley. To be more specific: a Napa terroir, but with a Bordeaux spirit.

Description: Aromas of blackcurrant, graphite, blueberries, dried flowers, black truffles, and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, fine tannins that linger, blackcurrant, mushrooms, and violets.

Pairs well with: Poultry, mushroom risotto, beef.

Fun fact: The wines, particularly those from the past 25 years, are comparable to very good Bordeaux Grand Crus, although they also contain the ripe fruit notes characteristic of Napa Valley.
