In 1936, Lucie 'Lulu' Tempier married Lucien Peyraud, who received Domaine Tempier, an old farm near Bandol, from her father. Lucien was inspired by an old wine made from pre-phylloxera grapes on the estate and began researching the terroir of Bandol. He discovered that the soil and climate were particularly suitable for growing mourvèdre, and that low yields produced the best results for long-lived wines. This led to a large-scale replanting of mourvèdre, which became mandatory within the Bandol AOC, with at least 50% mourvèdre in the wines.
Description: Lively freshness with a soft roundness, a mineral touch and slightly salty notes on the finish
Pairs well with: Shellfish, pasta with seafood, fish stews, fresh goat cheese
Fun fact: Due to a longer aging period of 8–10 months in wooden barrels and foudres, the wine retains freshness but also develops complexity and structure
