Jean Foillard took over the family business in the early 1980s, but his big breakthrough came when he joined the so-called "Gang of Four" – a group of winemakers (including Marcel Lapierre) who resisted industrial winemaking and returned to natural, terroir-driven wine traditions. The domain owns some of the best plots in the region, including the famous Côte du Py in Morgon – a hill with poor, stony soil of weathered schist, granite, and volcanic rock. Foillard also works in Corcelette and has vineyards in Fleurie, where granite predominates. These soils, together with the relatively cool climate, give his wines their characteristic structure, freshness, and finesse.

Description: Silky mouthfeel, fresh acidity and elegant, cherry, cranberry, red currant, floral, lively.

Pairs well with: Pan-fried sweetbreads, porcini mushrooms, semi-hard cheeses, steak tartare, tuna.

Fun fact: His fermentation takes place partly through semi-carbonic maceration, a technique typical of Beaujolais, but in a pure, precise way that allows both the fruit and the soil expression to come into their own. Filtration? Often skipped. Oak usage? Subtle and never dominant.
