Domaine Font de Courtedune is a 14-hectare organic estate in Courthézon, situated on the famous galets roulés – the rounded pebbles that store the day's heat and release it at night to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards. Owner Frédéric Lançon works with a mixed planting of old vine Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. No filtration, minimal sulfite addition, and aging in large wooden foudres. A classic, terroir-driven Châteauneuf.
Description: Dark garnet red with aromas of ripe black cherry, lavender, rosemary, spices, and a warm garrigue undertone. Full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with ripe tannins, a silky texture, and a long, spicy finish.
Pairs well with: Rack of lamb with Provençal herbs, game dishes, braised oxtail, or aged cheeses.
Fun fact: The 'galets roulés' – the famous round stones of Châteauneuf-du-Pape – were deposited millions of years ago by the Rhône river from the Alps. They act as a natural heating system, giving the wines their characteristic warmth and power.
