Domaine du Coulet ' Petit Ours Rosé 2024 '

The cheerful Matthieu, just under 1.70m, is quite round and has a nice beard (the little bear, Petit Ours). His grandfather owns more than 11 hectares of steep terraced vineyards in Cornas (out of a total of 120 hectares). He decides not to sell the grapes but to make his own wines (at 23 years old in 1998). He doesn't follow the path of the 'classic' producers but tries to influence the wine as minimally as possible and reduces the use of oak to a minimum. The new cellar completed in 2018 is full of concrete vats. His wines are intriguing and very pure, with depth and are stylistic. Besides the Cornas wine series, there is his négociant range with wines such as Petit Ours, Black Flack, No Wines Land.

Fun fact: The name "Petit Ours" (little bear) comes from the nickname that friends and fellow winemakers gave to winemaker Matthieu Barret, probably because he is small and has a substantial beard, making him resemble a little bear. That nickname "Petit Ours (brun)" then became so popular among his friends that Matthieu eventually used it as a name and character for a range of wines, including his rosé, white, and red Petit Ours cuvées
