The modern-classic success story of the graduated son who convinces his fathers to leave the cooperative and start making their own wine. What's special is that Laurent Combier debuted in 1989 with a vineyard that had already been maintained organically for twenty years. Healthy Syrah vines (with low yields) that had never been abused by artificial fertilizer, insecticide, or harvesting machine. When you walk through his vineyards with Laurent, you simply see it. Those aren't grapes hanging there. Those are fruits. With his first harvest in 1990, he was promoted directly to the premier league of the northern Rhône. He scored high in Gault/Millau's Syrah Olympiad and was the discovery of the Revue de Vin de France.
Description: Lots of fruit like blackberries, peach, and blueberries with a nice spiciness, cocoa, fine and elegant.
Pairs well with: Grilled lamb chops, game dishes, stew.
Fun fact: Since 2002, he has also been making wine in Priorat (Spain) with two wine companions under the name Le Trio Infernal. Very expensive stuff. Then the prices for his Crozes aren't so bad after all.
