In 1984, Rieussec was purchased by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the owners of Château Lafite Rothschild. The Rothschilds invested in a new cellar in 1989 and aimed for higher quality through better selection of grapes, which also led to lower production in the 1990s. One of the more recent recognitions for quality was when Château Rieussec 2001 was chosen as Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year in 2004. The vineyards of Château Rieussec cover 93 hectares and border those of Château d'Yquem to the west.

Description: Cooked apple, ripe peach with an oily texture, softly sweet.

Pairs well with: Cheese, classic desserts with plenty of fruit.

Fun fact: The Rieussec estate was owned by the Carmes de Langon monks in the 18th century. After the French Revolution, ecclesiastical properties were confiscated by the state and auctioned off.
