Château Ausone is one of Saint-Émilion's top estates and enjoys an almost mythical status. The vineyards are located on the southern slope of the limestone plateau that characterizes Saint-Émilion. The estate's name is said to be derived from the 4th-century Roman poet Ausonius. Chapelle d'Ausone is the second wine of this famous winery and can compete with many other Premier Grand Cru Classés. Generally, the vines are fifteen years younger than those of its big brother, and the yield is much lower, making Chapelle even scarcer.
Description: Ripe red fruit, floral, mineral, full-bodied, round, with freshness and rich aromas.
Pairs well with: Beef, lamb, wild boar.
Fun fact: At just 7 hectares, Chateau Ausone is by far the smallest estate of all the Premier Crus, which makes this iconic Saint-Émilion very scarce.
