Cascina delle Rose ' Langhe Nebbiolo 2020 '

Cascina delle Rose is a family business in Barbaresco, Piedmont, purchased by the Rizzolio family in 1948. It was Giovanna Rizzolio who took over the reins in 1992, as one of the few female winemakers in the Langhe, and gave the estate its current reputation. Today, her sons Riccardo and Davide Sobrino run the 5.5-hectare, organically certified estate on Barbaresco's famous Rio Sordo and Tre Stelle crus. The Langhe Nebbiolo is their accessible entry-level wine — fermented and aged in stainless steel, allowing the fresh, floral character of the Nebbiolo to take center stage.

Description: Somber garnet red with aromas of withered roses, cherry, earth, and a hint of licorice. Soft and full at the start, with fine tannins that provide tension without being harsh, and a fresh, mineral finish.

Pairs well with: Mushroom risotto, vitello tonnato, tajarin with butter and sage, or a classic Piedmontese salami.

Fun fact: Christophe Roumier of the legendary Domaine Georges Roumier in Chambolle-Musigny once described Cascina delle Rose as one of the few Piedmontese producers that achieve the same finesse as the biggest names in Burgundy.
