Near the small train station of Ferrão, in the Cima Corgo, the heart of the Douro Valley, lies Quinta do Bom Dia high on the slopes. The building dates back to 1640, and port has been made here since 1846. Not much has changed since then: the view of the vineyards and the river is still as expansive, yields are still low, and the grapes are harvested by hand and then trodden by foot in traditional granite lagares.
Description: Young red port, a maximum of 4-5 years old, aged in oak, soft, slightly sweet.
Pairs well with: Cheese, chocolate, cake-like desserts.
Fun fact: Quinta de Bom Dia is made by a family who, until 15 years ago, sold everything to the big players. Now the two daughters bottle the wines themselves. The winery is called Vieira de Souza and is located near Noval and Wine & Soul.
