Near the small train station of Ferrão, in Cima Corgo, the heart of the Douro Valley, Quinta do Bom Dia is situated high on the slopes. The building dates back to 1640 and port has been made here since 1846. Not much has changed since then: the view of the vineyards and the river is still as vast, the yields are still low, and the grapes are harvested by hand and then trodden by foot in traditional granite lagares.
Description: Matured red port, at least 10 years old, aged in oak, dried fruit such as figs and raisins.
Pairs well with: Cheese, desserts with nuts and caramel.
Fun fact: The port matures in small wooden barrels that are 80% filled. This allows the port to come into contact with air and the oxidation process begins. For a 10-year-old tawny port, this process has lasted 10 years.
